This is the text of a presentation given at the NAPA Breakout Meeting at the 2017 AAPA Impact Conference in Las Vegas, NV. NAPA members may log in and view the presentation slides here.

 

Election Results

  • One position was up for election this year: President-Elect
  • We received a nomination for one candidate who met requirements.
  • LT Michelle Miller will be NAPA’s 2017-2018 President-Elect

 

Awards

Three nominees were put forward for awards this year, for:

  1. NAPA Excellence
  2. NAPA Leadership
  3. NAPA Lifetime Achievement

Excellence Award

  • This award honors an outstanding Navy Physician Assistant during the current year.
  • Nominees must be on active duty or in the reserves.
  • Current NAPA BOD Officers are not eligible.
  • Candidates are considered on the basis of demonstrated leadership, professionalism, dedication to quality medical care, enhancement of the image of PAs, involvement in NAPA AAPA, local/state/regional PA affairs, and other achievements.

NAPA’s 2017 Excellence Award is awarded to

LT Jason Ehrhart, MPAS, PA-C

  • Co-authored two Ortho research projects
  • Presented two “e-posters” at the national conference for the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeon’s 58th Annual Meeting
  • Member of NAPA, AAPA, California Academy of PAs, San Diego Society of PAs, and SOMOS
  • (Former Dive Med Tech)
  • Bravo Zulu! Well Deserved

 

Leadership Award

  • This award honors an outstanding Navy Physician Assistant during the current year.
  • Nominees must be 0-3 or above, active duty, reserve or retiree.
  • Current NAPA BOD Officers are not eligible.
  • Candidates are considered on the basis of demonstrated leadership, professionalism, dedication to quality medical care, enhancement of the image of PAs, involvement in NAPA AAPA, local/state/regional PA affairs, and other achievements.

NAPA’s 2017 Leadership Award is awarded to

LT William Grisham, MPAS, PA-C

  • Navy's first Aerospace Medicine PA
  • Historic "winging" ceremony held Sept. 21 at the Navy Aerospace Medical Institute (NAMI) in Pensacola, Florida
  • Established the Navy’s Aerospace Medicine PA Additional Qualifier Designation, creating a new program to train PAs to work alongside flight surgeons
  • Training is identical to what flight surgeons receive. Program lasts six months and includes academics and flight training
  • Bravo Zulu! Well Deserved

 

Lifetime Achievement Award

  • This award honors an outstanding Navy Physician Assistant who has made a significant impact on the Navy PA community.
  • Nominees must have been on active duty (retired or currently active) or in the reserves.
  • Current NAPA BOD officers are not eligible; but prior involvement in the NAPA BOD is a plus.
  • Candidates are considered on the basis of demonstrated significant impact on the community and NAPA, development of the specialty, and track record of mentorship.

NAPA’s 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award is awarded to

CDR Ron W. Perry, MS, MPAS, MEd, PA-C

  • Senior Service Representative for the Navy here at the Interservice Physician Assistant Program
  • Served IPAP for over 10 years, graduating ~165 PAs per year (do the math – he’s made IMPACT)
  • Active in PA Community: Distinguished Fellow AAPA, Associate in Occupational Medicine AAPA, Past-President and Life-time Member NAPA, Texas Academy of PAs, Principal Faculty PAEA, Life-Member Military Officers Association of America, Life-Member Veterans of Foreign Wars, Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development
  • Active in Community at-large: Knights of Columbus, Boy Scouts, Sts Peter & Paul School, Veterans of Foreign Wars, TX Adopt A Hwy
